Medgar Evers was born on July 2, 1925, in Decatur, Mississippi. He had 4 relatives. When Evers was young he walked twelves miles to attended segregated schools, and earned his high school diploma. Evers severed in the U.S. army during WWII from 1943 to 1945. After the end of the war, Evers was honorably discharged as a sergeant. In 1948 Evers enrolled at an historically black college named Alcorn College majoring in business administration. He also competed on the debate, football, track teams, sang in the choir , and was junior class president. He later than earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1952. On December 24, 1951 he married his classmate named Myrlie Beasley. Together they had three children: Darrell Kenyatta, Reena Denise, and James Van Dyke Evers.
